Editorial Policy

Our standards

  1. Every price is a range with a named source type. We cite the kind of source behind each range (e.g., “per HomeAdvisor’s June 2026 national data”). We never present estimates as contractor quotes.
  2. No fake expertise. Our guides are research-based. We don’t claim contractor licenses, certifications, or credentials we don’t hold. Safety-critical work (electrical, gas, structural) is always flagged as licensed-professional-only.
  3. Answer first. Cost guides open with the price range in the first 100 words. No burying the answer under 2,000 words of fluff.
  4. Dated content. Every article displays its last-updated date. Cost guides are refreshed each January; incentive/tax content is updated whenever the law changes.
  5. Corrections within 48 hours. Errors reported via our Contact page are reviewed within two business days. Material corrections update the article’s date.

How articles are produced

Topics are selected from homeowner search demand, researched against multiple published cost sources and primary documents (IRS guidance, DOE data, DSIRE), drafted, then reviewed against a pre-publish checklist: source attribution, range sanity-check, FAQ accuracy, internal links, and SEO basics. No article publishes without passing the checklist.

Advertising and affiliates

Display ads and affiliate links may appear on the site. They are always visually distinct from editorial content, and commercial relationships never alter our published price ranges. If that ever changes, this policy will say so first.

What we don’t publish

  • DIY instructions for safety-critical work (electrical panel work, gas lines, structural changes) — costs and planning guidance only.
  • Medical, legal, or financial advice.
  • Content designed to mislead search engines rather than help readers.
